Adam and Hallie Hill

Written by Dehno on August 28th, 2010

On August 1st, I had the honor to shoot Adam and Hallie’s wedding in McLouth Kansas. Adam and I met in Jr. High, and although he moved away throughout high school, he moved back for college and met the woman of his dreams. Thanks for letting me be part of your guys’ special day, and here are some of my favorite shots from the wedding.

Kyle’s Top 5 iPhoneography Apps

Written by Dehno on August 2nd, 2010

As anyone who knows me, or has searched my Flickr and Galleries know that I love iPhoneography, or shooting photos with my iPhone. After seeing Chase Jarvis’ book, “The Best Camera” I was inspired. So after eight or so months of my addiction, I’ve compiled my Top 5 list for iPhoneography apps.

#5

Polarize

Most everyone loves old Polaroid cameras. I remember pulling out my dad’s and taking pictures  of EVERYTHING when I was just a tot. This app takes me back to that classic look. It’s easy to use and best of all, it’s FREE! Give it a try

#4

Flickit

So technically, this isn’t a photo-editing or camera app. But it’s extremely useful. It’s an easy, quick way to upload to Flickr. It’s got the ability to upload from your library, or to snap a shot and send it straight to the site. You can put multiple photos in your queue, edit details, and upload all at once. You can also set groups, tags, and photosets your photo’s automatically get sent to to save some time. It’s available for free and works great.

#3

Picture Show

Picture show is a photo-editing app with many fun and nice looking filters and effects. I’ve just downloaded this but playing around with it, it seems like a great app to add that extra little touch. It’s got tons of presets, and they look awesome.  For $.99 it’s a no brainer. And I’ve just touched on the possibilities.

#2

Hipstamatic

Another app I just downloaded, after seeing tons of cool shots on Flickr, I broke down and paid the whole $1.99. From playing around with it, I love it. The vintage shots are cool, and the layout of the app is fun. Resembling an old camera, where you can change lens’ and film, it’s just a lot of fun. Check it out!

AND…

#1

Best Camera

Best Camera is the app I’ve used the most. Made by Chase Jarvis, its a set of preset filters you can stack to your own liking. You can’ really adjust any of the effects, but stacking them can cause really cool effects. Best of all, over at http://www.thebestcamera.com, there’s a community full of photo’s from the app. You can upload directly to the site, Flickr, Facebook, and others from in the app. It’s easy to use the community of people using it is really diverse, with tons of cool pictures. At $2.99, you can’t go wrong.

There you have it, my Top 5 iPhoneography apps. If you haven’t realized the potential for your little camera built into your cell phone, just go out and shoot. You’ll be suprised.

And also, check out the updated iPhone gallery in the Gallery section of the site!

Signing out,

Kyle

Sad Day…

Written by Dehno on July 15th, 2010

While surfing the net today, I stumbled upon some news that I wish I wouldn’t have. The Topeka State Hospital Center Building in Topeka, was torn down on June 1st by Topeka School District 501. I grew up in Topeka, and this building has always, and will always be, my favorite piece of architecture. I believe the hospital was in operation from 1882 to 1997,  and the center Kirkbride Building was built in 1900. It was a beautiful building, with lots of history and stories. The hospital campus was a great place for walks or bike-rides, always being peaceful and serene.

District 501 bought the campus in 2009, and plans to turn the campus into a “state of the art renewable energy learning center.” While the building was said to be structurally unsafe, a few urban explorers who walked through said besides obvious decay, everything seemed to be sound.
I personally wish the city or state would have fixed up the building and made it a historical landmark, but it’s too late now.
So on that note, R.I.P. Topeka State Hospital.
